Where to eat in Prague? Restaurants in Prague. Timeout Prague - Dining guide

Where to eat in Prague? Our Dining guide!!

Czech cuisine is robustly Central European, based on meat, sauerkraut, dumplings (knedliky) and other beer sops. It’s filling, and game dishes and soups are brought off with true gusto. The local beerhall (pivnice or hospoda) invariably serves all of these for a pittance – but usually only until 10pm.

A place called “Restaurace” is a standard restaurant often not too expensive.
A “Vinarna” is a wine bar and a “Kavarna” is a café.

Menus are printed in German and English, often with photos to show how the dish will look, while credit cards are now widely accepted. If prices aren't clearly listed, or appear higher than those on a Czech language menu then go elsewhere. Moreover, wherever you dine, check the bill carefully as overcharging is commonplace!!!

This is our selection of best restaurants in Prague. Prague restaurants featured on to-Prague.com Experience are located in Prague's city centre. All restaurants are specially selected as offering high standards of cuisine & good value for money.

Editor's choice : Staromacek - Restaurant

Address : Dlouha 4 - Old Town
Metro/Bus : Metro: Staromestska (line A)

Staromacek (Czech restaurant)

Staromacek is a traditional Czech restaurant that presents a menu of old Bohemian cuisine, including a fine line in venison. Much of the preparation is on an open grill. Good selection of traditional Moravian wines and Pilsner beer.
Waiters are dressed in traditional costume and Staromácek comes into its own after dark, when a beautiful array of candles is lit around the restaurant.
As typical Czech restaurants, you won't find much better value just a few places from the Old Town Square.

Novomestsky Pivovar (Czech restaurant)

Novomestsky Pivovar (the New Town Brewery) is situated close to Wenceslas Square in the centre of Prague. This excellent venue is a traditional Czech pub, restaurant and micro-brewery all rolled into one.
During the day, you might be lucky and get a table if you are passing. During the evening though, bookings are essential for both individuals and groups. Novomestsky is an extremely popular place for groups to meet, to start their night off.
Popular with both locals and tourists, the restaurant's massive pig's knee dish is famous throughout town. Over the last couple of years the staff's reputation for surliness has discouraged many. Make sure you check your bill before settling.

The restaurant serves hearty Czech food at very reasonable prices and you get a chance to sample some of the breweries own Pilsner beer. Fish and vegetarian options are also available, along with wine, spirits & soft drinks.

Phone : +420 2 2225 1601
Metro/Bus : Metro : Muzeum (Line A, C) - Tram 11 Italska

Modra Reka (Yugoslav restaurant)

Sometimes the best things really do come in small packages. A good example is this tiny Modra Reka, family-run restaurant that probably holds less than twenty people. No matter as whoever is here will taste some of the best Mediterranean-influenced Yugoslav cooking this side of the Adriatic.
The deliciously spicy menu includes Yugoslav classics such as cevapcici (minced meat kebabs) with adzvar (roast red pepper puree) and gibanica (a rich cake filled with fruit, nuts and poppy seeds).
A heaping platter of well-spiced beef fingers goes for 130 Kc. Other dishes, including fish, are equally as fair priced. Great Yugoslav pop soundtracks play in the background and, unlike seaside life in general, service is anything but slow.
